A Gift from An Abnormally Normal Goddess!

Madelyn, Kristy and I decided from time to time we'd like to gift our reader-friends with some little prize may it be a book, a piece of jewelry or any other trinket we have up our sleeve {or laying around on a bookcase or absconded away in a treasure drawer!}  What better day than a Monday to let the gifting commence :)

This beautiful artisan floral lampwork glass bead was created by me and has a lovely iridescent glow; it glows like a gem in the sunlight. Wire-wrapped with sterling silver into a pendant with Swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls it is a sweet reminder of spring. Hung from silver-plated chain it makes for a simple but elegant necklace.

Spring is in the air! We'd like to know your favorite signs that spring is right around the corner, pushing Old Man Winter back to his den for another year. For me it is that first wet balmy breeze mixed with the sounds of Celtic music which means St. Paddy's Day is approaching with spring not far behind. So please respond with your favorite signs of spring and we'll choose a winner by letting our resident fairy, Matilda, sprinkle fairy dust over her favorite response {don't mind the glitter when your necklace arrives in the mail... fairies tend to go a little overboard with the sparkles!}

Enjoy!

  1. I know its nothing special, but my favorite sign of spring is the buds on all the trees letting us know that pretty soon all the trees will be filling up with beautiful green leaves and some pretty flowers!

  3. For me the first sign of Spring arriving is the way the sun light seems to change the green in all my plants in the yard. They seem to aquire an almost irridescent glow. Also my violets that I planted in 1966 start popping up along with the calla lillies. Even the air seems better. It is a very happy time for me.

  4. I know spring is right around the corner, when my annuals start springing up through the dirt. Yes, they are right next to the house, but once they start, everything else starts growing, and I know it's nearly spring!

  5. My favorite signs of spring are:
    1. Hearing the birds singing like crazy
    2. The smell of green-ness all around
    3. The feel of warm sunshine on my face mixed with a cool-ish breeze
    4. Easter decorations in the stores....I know they go up right after (or in some cases along with) Valentine's day stuff, but when I see them, I know spring isn't far behind

  6. For me, it's a mixture of the scent of the breeze, the sight of flowers in my lawn (some people call them weeds, not I) and that glorious feeling when, for the first time that year, the sun feels warm on my face.

For Pupparotti, it's definetly when he is out frolicking in the fields and is able to track back vasts amounts of mud on his paws, and the earth feels squidgy and not hard beneath his paws. He told me this, of course, and demonstrated his mud dragging technique. It was exquisite! :)

  7. i love watching everything awaken and grow, watching the robins in the yard, the sunsets always differ with the seasons, the spring storms coming in from the gulf. I could go on and on, but the best sign of spring is the smell. sounds weird, i know, but the air smells different. Ostara is fast approaching and I always look to nature for my devotion. Blessed be. 8. I suppose for me it's the smell of renewal in the desert air and the sound of hummingbirds as they flit around the yard as if encouraging the earth to stretch and shimmy off its vestiges of frost.

  9. I have 2 the first is the smell of spring. Its so fresh and clean. Many fabric softners claim it as a scent for their product. However I have yet to find one that has gotten it right. My second is when my tulips start to pop up!

  10. When I see the robins. I will see them very early in the year because of where I live but even as a child and living in New York I loved seeing them because I knew that the weather would be getting much better.

  11. for me it's that ever so slight warmth you feel in the breeze. you know those days where you can feel something is different and on the cusp of something good :)

  12. Oh how I love to hear that sweet bird song right outside my front door. Every year they scope out my door wreath in hopes of building a nest! Also the buds on the trees! Just today my 7 yr. old and I stopped to look at some fuzzy red ones on a neighbor's tree. My son said they reminded him of truffula trees....like in The Lorax! Can't wait to see some bunnies and the pregnant mama deer that likes to leave rest spots on our lawn!

  13. Spring is approaching for me when I wake up to the sound of robins singing outside my window. They gently nudge me from the gray of winter. It was a wonderful sound this past Sunday morning and a beautiful way to begin the week.

  14. I really dislike the commercialism of holidays. But whenever plastic Easter eggs appear in stores after Valentine's Day, it reminds me that it is time to make Pysanky - otherwise known as Ukrainian eggs. Many years ago, I found a lovely book in the library about these beautiful eggs that are created with wax and dyes. Each symbol, each color on an egg has a meaning making them prayers written on an eggshell. I was absolutely enthralled with them and knew that I had to learn more. I taught myself how to make them and became quite skilled at creating them. Selling them became my at-home job when my kids were in school, and I even had one on display at the White House one Easter. Now the kids are grown, and I am busy with my career which is especially crazy this time of year. Slowing down to create my prayer eggs at Easter is a blessing that I sometimes forget I need. It is a great reminder and symbol of my faith, life renewed and the spirit of Easter found each spring.

  15. I know Spring is just around the corner when the daffodils start peeking through the dirt and then begin blooming! I notice when I leave for work in the mornings the dew on the ground, mixed with the cool air makes everything look and smell fresh. And, finally when the Bradford Pear trees start blooming, I know Spring is just around the corner. There is just an unseen fresh energy in the air.

  16. I love hearing the birds chirping in the morning and watching them feast from the bird feeder right outside my window. I curl up in my cozy chair with a good book and delight in the early signs of spring.

  17. My favorite signs that spring is right around the corner is when my animal friends such as the robins, red wing blackbirds, and whooping cranes start their migration back. I almost turn it into a game, the anticipation of the first sighting is as exciting as Christmas morning. Another sign I enjoy is the pop of color that emerges from the ground as spring bulbs awake from their slumber such as the crocus, always the first to bloom. The buzz of the first flying insects of the season such as the honeybees that I saw collecting pollen from my crocus flowers yesterday. Lastly I know spring is around the corner when my feline friend Maui once again wants to go out and explore the great outdoors.

  18. My sign of spring is hearing birds singing at first light & waking to see the glow of yellow daffodils, the sound of buzzing bees and the wildlife in the warm sun. Opening my window to the smell of fresh, green grass and getting up to celebrate the Easter weekend with chocolate bunnies and gifts with my loved ones. What more could you ask for in spring.

  20. In honor of my Gramma Rose, who was a great rhymester....

    Spring is in the air,
when you walk outside without a care,
you squint your eyes from the sun's bright glare,
bees buzz buzz around your hair,
weeds poke up here & there,
trees bud out with fervent flair,
    this is Spring's sublime fanfare!

:) I <3 Spring!! Here in Florida, there are gusty breezes and NO HUMIDITY!! YEAH!! Love being outside this time of year.

  21. Oh the arrival of spring....

Waking up to a symphony of birds...

    Warm sunshine hitting my face...

    Crocuses, Dafodils, Tulips, and Hyacynths...

I love all of the smells in the air...

Easter egg hunts, jelly beans, and blowing bubbles....

Digging in the dirt and preparing for the summer gardens...

Cooking on the grill and the lovely aromas it gives off...

Being thankful for life and another beautiful season...

    That is Spring to me!!!

  22. Hmmmm spring is in the air when.... you have to wear a jacket in the crisp cold morning and by afternoon you are in a tshirt soaking in the sun. When you can go for a bike ride comfortably with your favorite person and your dogs.... oh! and that first morning when you walk outside and there are so many birds singing it swells, such a beautiful sound to hear after a winter of silence from those little guys :)

  30. My favorite sign of Spring is the temperature and a chance to be outside without a thick winter coat, scarf and gloves. Just love it! Can't wait for the grass to turn green and trees to start budding. Definitely my favorite Season.

  31. [[I know that I am ineligible to win, gosh darn it!!]] When I see the tree buds of the Magnolia tree pop their lazy heads out, I know that Spring is near. I don't have a Magnolia where I am living now, but at one of my most treasured homes, I did. I knew that the old crooked tree, that survived over fifty years, wouldn't let me down with the spring alert. He never let me down.

  33. So many of you have such great "spring is here" signs! This year, it was my day starting with my cat, Rowan, sitting at her perch in the dining room window, chittering to the birds who had magically appeared overnight, while returning from my mailbox with our first seed catalogs! Such hope and promise in the air with bird songs, and in my hand with beautiful (& yummy) vegetation to come! :)

  35. There comes the day when the birds start singing loudly, the breeze is light and cool, and the sun is shining brightly. I look down and see the sprouts of my tulips and daffodils. I feel magical as I shed my winter woes and welcome spring into my life!

  36. Spring to me is light. The heavy, dark feeling I have during the winter months is lifted. There is more light, and with more light the earth comes alive. The scent of growth and renewal, the visual rebirth of early bulbs making their way through the soil to the sun and then exploding with color. What a gift, and a great reminder that we can push through the dirt with our arms up to the sky and sun for renewal ~

  38. Oh I just love spring and I would have to say my favorite sign of spring is the arrival of the Robins. They are just so cute hopping around pulling up worms and bugs. I just love their brave personality. Also I love to see the friendly faces of the Daffodils popping up...they are just a happy flower that make me smile..in fact I have a cupful brought for my birthday sitting here on my desk at work!
